Rising to fame in 1985 when he broke the British record for the 400m, Derek was selected to represent Team GB in the European Championships in the 4x400m relay, where he claimed Gold. A year later, he gained the opportunity to compete in the 1987 World Championships, allowing him to showcase his remarkable talent on a world stage. Plagued by injury, Derek suffered a torn hamstring, which forced him to retire from athletics in 1994. Turning his high-performance mindset to other sports, Derek became a professional basketball player for the Birmingham Bullets and the England National Team, allowing him to compete against the likes of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant
Aside from his admirable sporting career, Derek utilises his performance management and high-performance knowledge as an executive coach. Respected for his valuable knowledge, he has worked as the Director of Development for UK Athletics, and Group Performance Director of Thomas International, a role which allowed him to develop the performance and mindset of all employees across the organisation.
