Richard Davies is an inspirational Royal Air Force veteran, Invictus Games champion, and world record holder whose resilience and determination have made him a highly regarded high-performance speaker. Known for his ability to turn adversity into achievement, he inspires audiences with his story of transformation, discipline, and mental strength. From military service to global sporting success, Richard’s journey demonstrates what is possible when focus, purpose, and perseverance align. His talks go beyond motivation, offering practical lessons in resilience and mindset that empower people to perform at their best, both personally and professionally.
Richard began his career in 2009 when he joined the Royal Air Force as a Ground Support Engineer. Over fourteen years of dedicated service, he rose to the respected rank of Corporal, earning recognition for his leadership and commitment. After sustaining a life-changing injury and making limited progress in recovery, he made the courageous decision in 2021 to undergo a below-knee amputation. During his rehabilitation at Stanford Hall, he was fitted with a custom prosthetic and learned to walk again — a defining chapter that reignited his determination to pursue new challenges and prove that limits are only temporary.
His return to competitive sport marked a remarkable new phase. In 2023, Richard represented Team UK in the Invictus Games, competing in swimming, rowing, and archery, and winning four gold medals in swimming. That same year, he joined Mabway Limited as a Casualty Role Player, helping to train and prepare others through his lived experience. In 2024, he and fellow veteran Rich Potter set a world record as the fastest amputee team to complete the Half Snowman Trek in Bhutan, an achievement that drew BBC coverage. By 2025, Richard had joined Calain Group in a similar role and co-authored ‘The Start Over’ book series with Sir Marco Robinson, sharing insights into recovery, resilience, and renewed purpose.
Richard is hired as a speaker because his story embodies the essence of high performance. Combining the discipline of a serviceman with the mindset of a champion, he speaks with authenticity and impact. His experiences illustrate that success is not about avoiding setbacks, but about embracing them as opportunities to grow, adapt, and thrive, a message that resonates powerfully with every audience he meets.

“I’ve worked with Rich a few times now, and in April 2025, he spoke at an amputation conference for Irwin Mitchell. He completely held the room with his story – from limb loss to four gold medals and sporting endeavours. His talk was full of emotion and honesty, with moments of light-hearted humour. Rich’s journey is one of courage and determination, and he shares it in a way that really connects with people. I’d highly recommend him – truly inspirational. Thanks, Rich!”
“Richard shares his journey in recovery, life and sporting excellence with our degree students. Not only does this provide us insight into the operation of elite para sport, but a window into life’s challenges and how our resilience can be built through adversity. Students greatly value the personal story and can use this as inspiration for their own careers, as well as their working knowledge of para sport talent development systems.”
