Alex Atherton is a Generations and Gen Z workplace expert, leadership coach, and award winning keynote speaker who helps organisations navigate the complexities of the multigenerational workforce. Recognised as a winner at the Speaker Awards 2025, Alex is known for challenging misconceptions about younger generations and equipping leaders with practical strategies to recruit, retain, and develop emerging talent. Alex began his career in education, earning the National Professional Qualification for Headship before leading two large comprehensive schools as Headteacher. These leadership roles sharpened his understanding of human behaviour, motivation, and organisational culture in high pressure environments. During this time, he became increasingly aware of the growing disconnect between generations, particularly the misunderstandings surrounding Gen Z. His experience also led him to advisory roles, including Education Advisor to the UK Parliament’s Youth Violence Commission and Consultant Improvement Partner for Haringey Education Partnership, as well as Lead Advisor for the Russell Education Trust.
Building on this foundation, Alex moved further into executive coaching and leadership development. He became a Senior Practitioner Leadership Coach and Mentor with EMCC Global, achieving both Practitioner Certified Team Coach and Foundations Certified Team Coach status. He also completed the ILM Level 7 Diploma for Executive and Senior Level Coaches and Mentors, strengthening his evidence based approach to leadership performance. In 2025, he published ‘The Snowflake Myth: Explaining Gen Z in the Workplace and Beyond’, bringing his research and practical insights into one clear resource for modern leaders.
