Andrzej Bargiel is a trailblazing ski mountaineer and high-altitude athlete whose achievements have reshaped modern extreme sports. Growing up in the Polish mountains, Andrzej developed determination early, first through horse riding and mountain biking before returning to skiing, a passion sparked when he traded table tennis paddles for his first pair of skis at nine years old. From 2005 to 2011 he dominated the Polish junior and senior ski mountaineering scene, winning national titles such as the Polish Cup and the Polish Championships, alongside strong international junior results. He climbed Kilimanjaro at seventeen, further proving his exceptional endurance and ambition. These formative years established the foundation of discipline, adaptability and tenacity that propelled him onto the world stage.

Over the following decade, Andrzej built one of the most remarkable records in high-altitude skiing. Highlights include becoming the first Pole to ski from the summit of Shishapangma, setting records on Manaslu for both his rapid ascent and his base to peak to base route, and completing the historic first ski descent of Broad Peak. In 2016 he earned the Snow Leopard title in record time and was named National Geographic Traveler’s Man of the Year, also receiving the Colossus award for mountaineering. His groundbreaking descent of K2 without removing his skis led to him being named National Geographic Adventurer of the Year. More recently, he skied down Gasherbrum I and II to become the first person to ski all four Karakoram eight-thousanders, and completed technically demanding descents in South America. He has also been honoured with the Golden Cross of Merit and the Promoter of Poland award for his contributions to Polish mountaineering.
