Briana Scurry is a retired American soccer goalkeeper, speaker, author, and broadcast analyst for CBS, who brings extraordinary insight to the world of high performance. Briana channels her lived experience of elite sport, adversity, and advocacy into impactful keynote speeches. What motivates her is a deep commitment to resilience, representation, and results. With a career built on making critical decisions under global scrutiny, she stands as an undisputed expert in high performance. Her keynote topics—Overcoming Obstacles, Teambuilding, Diversity and Minority Issues, and Setting and Achieving Goals—reflect a lifetime of breaking boundaries, leading under pressure, and defying expectations.

Briana’s ascent began with her leading Anoka High School to a state soccer championship in 1989 and being named Minnesota’s High School Female Athlete of the Year. Her collegiate excellence at the University of Massachusetts earned her national accolades, including National Collegiate Goalkeeper of the Year in 1993. In 1994, she made her debut for the U.S. national team and over the next 15 years earned a record 173 caps, 71 shutouts, and an international record of 133–12–14. Briana played a key role in historic wins at the 1996 and 2004 Olympics and the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup, becoming the cornerstone of one of the most successful eras in women’s football. As a founding player in the Women’s United Soccer Association, she helped build the world’s first professional women’s league where players were paid, blazing a trail as one of the first African American professional female players.

Briana’s post-retirement journey has been equally remarkable. After a traumatic brain injury forced her retirement in 2010, she underwent experimental occipital nerve surgery, followed by becoming a leading voice in concussion advocacy, for which she has testified before Congress. She was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2017—the first female goalkeeper and Black woman to receive this honour. In 2022, she published the bestselling memoir My Greatest Save and was the subject of the CBS documentary The Only. She received the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage at the 2023 ESPYS and delivered the 2023 UMass Commencement Speech, before being Ambassador for President Biden’s Olympic Delegation at the 2024 Paris Olympics, furthering her impact as an inspirational figure in sport and society.

As a speaker, Briana weaves powerful storytelling with actionable insights. Her topics address the realities of overcoming life-changing injuries, the dynamics of world-class teamwork, the importance of representation, and the mindset required to consistently deliver high performance. Her focus is not only on winning, but on perseverance, self-leadership, and turning adversity into strength. By representing marginalised voices—particularly Black and LGBTQ+ communities—she speaks with unique authority on diversity and inclusion. Briana is hired not just for her achievements, but for her rare ability to inspire transformative growth in individuals, teams, and organisations alike.
