David Weir

David Weir CBE is one of Britain’s most decorated and respected Paralympians, celebrated for his phenomenal achievements on the track and road. A six-time Paralympic gold medallist and eight-time winner of the London Marathon, David’s determination and resilience have made him a global symbol of high performance and endurance. Affectionately known as “The Weirwolf,” he has inspired generations through his relentless pursuit of excellence, overcoming barriers to become one of the most successful wheelchair athletes in history.

David’s remarkable journey began at a young age when his passion for racing set him on the path to international success. Representing Great Britain across multiple Paralympic Games, he became a dominant force in wheelchair athletics. His defining moment came at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, where he delivered an unforgettable performance by winning four gold medals in the 800m, 1500m, 5000m and marathon events. These victories cemented his legacy as one of the greatest Paralympians of all time and earned him the honour of carrying the British flag during the Games’ closing ceremony.

Beyond the Paralympics, David has achieved sustained success on the road, winning the London Marathon eight times and breaking multiple records along the way. He holds British records in all track distances up to 5,000m and on the road at 10km. His 2018 victory at the Great North Run, where he broke the course record with a time of 41:19, highlighted his continued dominance years after his first major wins. In recognition of his services to athletics, David was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2013 New Year Honours. He also co-founded the Weir Archer Academy, mentoring and training young athletes with disabilities to achieve their full potential.
