Dr. Anders Tegnell

Dr Anders Tegnell is a globally recognised public health leader known for guiding Sweden through one of the most complex health crises of the modern era. With more than three decades of experience in infectious disease control, crisis preparedness, and international health policy, he has become a respected voice on how societies can prepare for and respond to global health threats. Anders originally trained as a physician and went on to complete a PhD in Infectious Diseases at Linköping University as well as a Master’s degree in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. In 2013 Anders was appointed State Epidemiologist of Sweden, a position in which he led population health strategy at national level. Advocating for a strategy grounded in scientific assessment and long term public trust, he took a different path from much of the world, keeping schools open and avoiding full lockdowns.
