General John R. John’s path to leadership began with a distinguished early career in the Marine Corps, where he quickly rose through the ranks due to his operational excellence and strategic intellect. In 2002, he became the first Marine Corps officer to serve as Commandant of Midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy, shaping the next generation of naval leaders. His command roles included Deputy Commanding General of the II Marine Expeditionary Force in Iraq and later, Deputy Commander of U.S. Central Command. In 2011, he took command of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force and U.S. Forces in Afghanistan, overseeing military operations during a critical transition period.
