Kyle Steyn is a professional rugby player, coach, and high-performance speaker best known as the captain of Glasgow Warriors and a winger for Scotland. Recognised for his leadership, work ethic and consistency at the highest level of the sport, Kyle led Glasgow Warriors to the 2024 United Rugby Championship title, becoming only the second captain of a Scottish club to lift a major professional trophy. With extensive experience across international rugby sevens and the traditional fifteen-man game, Kyle has developed a strong reputation for resilience, teamwork and elite performance. His journey through professional sport makes him a highly engaging speaker on leadership, culture and performing under pressure.
Kyle began his rugby career in South Africa with Griquas, competing in both the Currie Cup and Rugby Challenge. His performances quickly established him as a promising talent and, in 2018, he was named captain of the side. Alongside his rugby commitments, Kyle completed a degree in Biochemistry at Stellenbosch University in 2017, demonstrating the discipline and balance that would become hallmarks of his professional career. Later in 2018, he joined the Scotland rugby sevens programme, where he earned more than thirty international caps, scored fifteen tries and competed in six HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series tournaments. His impressive displays led to a move to Glasgow Warriors in 2019, where he immediately became a fan favourite and was voted joint winner of the Warrior of the Month award during his debut season.
Kyle’s influence at Glasgow Warriors continued to grow and, in 2020, he made history by becoming the first men’s player since 1995 and the first at the home of Scottish rugby to score four tries in a single game. In 2022, he was appointed captain of Glasgow Warriors and helped shape a culture centred around accountability, resilience and ambition. His leadership reached a new level in 2024 when he guided the club to victory in the United Rugby Championship final, while also marking his 100th appearance for the club by lifting the historic 1872 Cup against Edinburgh. Beyond playing, Kyle has expanded into coaching, becoming Skills Coach for Glasgow Hawks during the 2025/26 season. He has also gained wider recognition through projects such as the YouTube golf series Scrum2Scratch and was shortlisted for the 2026 Guinness Men’s Six Nations Player of the Championship.
