After graduating from the University of Brighton in 2000 with a degree in Theatre with Visual Practice, Sally began building a career in media and communications. In 2003, she completed her first Atlantic rowing expedition alongside her mother, securing a Guinness World Record and earning widespread media attention. The experience transformed her career and passion for adventure. The following year, Sally worked as a producer and broadcast assistant for BBC Radio Northampton before launching Rowgirls in 2005, an initiative designed to inspire women through adventure and challenge. That same year, she completed a second Atlantic crossing and became part of the first three-handed boat ever to complete the route. Alongside her expeditions, Sally qualified as a personal trainer and later worked with Physio & More, supporting athletes connected to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
As her profile continued to grow, Sally expanded into broadcasting, charity work and advocacy. She became a Trustee for the London Sports Trust in 2010 before moving into broadcasting roles as a writer and presenter for BBC Radio 4 in 2012. Her acclaimed TED Talk, ‘A Drop in the Ocean‘, further established her reputation as a compelling storyteller and motivational speaker. Sally has also raised more than £1 million for charity and published her autobiography, ‘Sally’s Odd at Sea’, which documents the physical and emotional realities of endurance adventure. In 2019, she co-founded the Active Pregnancy Foundation and became its CEO, championing safe and accessible exercise during pregnancy. She later took on the role of Deputy Chief Guide for Girlguiding in 2023 and, in 2025, was recognised as an Impact Champion while joining the Sports Summit.
Sally is hired as a speaker for her powerful combination of world-class endurance achievement, leadership expertise and authentic storytelling.
